VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Do you love oysters and an open bar? The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center is hosting a sustainable oyster event on Friday.
People can come out to the Hops & Shells event and enjoy fresh oysters, po’boys, an open bar and live music.
During this event, representatives from the Virginia Aquarium’s Sensible Seafood Program and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation educate guests about oysters’ importance to the ecosystem and the local industry.
As a sustainability effort, oyster shells at the event will be collected and recycled. Officials say recycling oyster shells helps sustain the local oyster population, helps restore coral reefs, filters water and protects coastal habitats.
Tickets to the event are $125 for the public and $120 for Aquarium members. To buy tickets, visit the Virginia Aquarium website.
