According to Ukrinform, this was reported in Telegram by the head of Luhansk region Artem Lysohor, who took part in the online forum “Forest Resources: Modern Challenges and Prospects”.
“First of all, I spoke about the environmental damage caused by Russia's military aggression: the total amount of environmental damage in Luhansk region is more than UAH 617 billion, and this amount is increasing. The largest losses are caused by land contamination (UAH 314.8 billion) and forest fires (over UAH 298.4 billion). The amount will grow, and it is the Russian Federation that should compensate for these losses,” said Lysohor.
According to him, this amount includes both the contamination of land with ammunition, mines and chemicals and the consequences of large-scale forest fires that raged this year.
He emphasized that no one extinguished the burned-out forests, while villages in the occupied territories also burned, which led not only to significant environmental damage but also to the deaths of people.
In addition, there is a glaring problem with the region's mines.
“They are not maintained, they do not work to drain mine water, which, when it gets into water bodies, pollutes them with harmful substances,” said the head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, forest fires are raging in the TOT of Luhansk region, with 100 hectares of territory burning down per day.
