The Rockwall County Commissioner’s Court, led by Commissioner John Stacy, last Friday hosted a three-county educational session on soil and water conservation lakes. The session brought together elected and appointed officials, city staff members and residents from Rockwall, Kaufman and Van Zandt counties.
The discussion focused on the urban development of former farmland and the associated challenges of surface water runoff and soil erosion. Although each county faces its own unique challenges, this marked the first step toward collaboration among the three counties in addressing these development-related issues.
The speakers included Owen Cantrell, district technician for the Kaufman-Van Zandt-Rockwall Soil and Water Conservation District; Mark Northcut, natural resource manager at USDA-NRCS Texas; Steve Bednarz, program administrator/engineer at the Texas State Soil & Water Conservation Board; and Trina Lancaster, an engineer with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
