Yucatán tourist experience awarded during Sustainable & Social Tourism Summit – The Yucatan Times

During the present Administration, the State Tourism Promotion Secretariat (Sefotur) has worked under the concept of sustainability and sustainability for the tourism sector of Yucatán, to generate best practices and optimize the natural, cultural, and historical resources of the state. to provide quality experiences to visitors.
It is the first time that the State of Yucatán has obtained an award from the most representative event in Ibero-America in terms of sustainability “Sustainable & Social Tourism” within the framework of its 2024 annual event held in the city of León, Gto.
Sustainable & Social Tourism Summit A.C., a social organization whose objective is the promotion of sustainability, solidarity, and social responsibility in tourism; from July 3 to 6, carried out the third delivery of the Sustainable and Social Tourism Award in Ibero-America, resulting in the winner of the award in the “Large Companies” category to Destino Mío Mayan Jungle Retreat by AKEN Soul, a project located in Tekit, Yucatan.
The purpose of this award is to recognize the best practices in social tourism and to change initiatives that have generated a positive impact on the industry.
In that sense, “Destino Mío” stood out for its commitment to environmental conservation, the promotion of local culture, and the well-being of its collaborators and the community in which it is located; characteristics related to the tourism development plan that has been pursued during the current administration, in which work was done to make tourism a tool of change for Yucatecans, decentralizing it and taking it to more regions of the state.
It should be noted that during this third edition of the Sustainable and Social Tourism Award in Ibero-America, it received a total of 47 applications from 9 Ibero-American countries, awarding only five projects in its different categories: “Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Private Companies and/or community and entrepreneurs”, “Civil Society”, “Academy and research”, “Public Sector” and “Large companies”, in the latter awarding “Destino Mío” for its work in promoting sustainable tourism practices with great impact on the community local.
The winning initiatives presented in this edition have not only shared their innovative projects but also the inspiration behind them, as well as the impact they seek to generate in society. “Destino Mío” Mayan Jungle Retreat by AKEN Soul represents an exemplary model of how tourism can be an engine of sustainable and social development in the region.

It also highlights the success of the strategies implemented by the current administration to promote tourism and highlights the positive impact that can be achieved by decentralizing and diversifying our tourism proposals. Yucatan will continue working to position Yucatán as an exemplary destination in terms of sustainable development and community well-being, attracting more visitors to our state.
