Geneva, Switzerland: The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) announces Schindler, a global leader in mobility solutions for urban environments, as its newest member.
Through this membership, Schindler aims to contribute to tackling the variety of complex sustainability challenges faced by the built environment sector on a global scale. Schindler joins the Built Environment WBCSD working group to collaborate with stakeholders from across a wide range of disciplines and industries to develop sustainable solutions beyond its own operations.
Silvio Napoli, Chairman and CEO of Schindler Group, highlighted the significance of this membership. “We’ve made it our purpose to enhance quality of life in urban environments, with sustainability at the heart of what we do. Becoming a WBSCD member means joining forces with individuals and companies committed to fostering progress, an essential step in delivering on our common commitment.”
Peter Bakker, President and CEO of WBCSD, expressed his enthusiasm for Schindler’s membership, stating: “We are delighted to welcome Schindler to the WBCSD community. Their commitment to sustainability and expertise in urban mobility will be key as we work together to address the complex challenges facing the built environment. Together, we can drive positive change and create a better world where 9+ billion people live well within planetary boundaries, by 2050”
By further developing and implementing sustainable business practices aligned with its sustainability strategy, including a commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2040, Schindler aims to drive positive environmental and social change throughout its value chain. With a workforce of over 70,000 employees across more than 100 countries, the company is set to enhance the quality of life in urban environments by providing the best mobility solutions across buildings for the benefit of all stakeholders.
Schindler is committed to sustainability reporting and disclosure. Its disclosures are aligned with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards since the publication of its first sustainability report in 2012. Its materiality assessment has since been updated to meet revised standards. Furthermore, Schindler supports the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and is preparing for new reporting requirements from the EU and Switzerland.
