CEVA Logistics is committed to improving the environmental performance of its warehouses worldwide, as one of its levers to reduce carbon emissions. The company aims to reduce its emissions steadily over the coming years to reach net zero by 2050, in line with the CMA CGM Group’s sustainability commitment. CEVA’s sustainable logistics are on show at its new warehouse in Ile de France, dedicated to Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024.
One of the Ile de France warehouses is part of CEVA’s facilities that will support the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024. Around 150 CEVA employees work at this CEVA storage location near Paris, dealing with many logistics activities as furniture and bedding. The warehouse received a ‘Very good’ BREEAM rating, following the assessment of a range of measures, including energy use, waste, land use and ecology, health and wellbeing and building management.
Energy efficiency was a particular strength of the warehouse, with a score of 81 (out of 100). This was due in part to the solar panels installed on its roof, providing a surface area of around 32,000 m2 for an installed power of 6,000 kW. In addition, all the warehouse lighting is LED, complete with light and motion sensors to further reduce energy consumption by automatically turning lights off when not needed. The low carbon energy use continues in the parking lot, with eight parking slots equipped with up to 20 electric charging sockets to support fleet and transport decarbonization.
The warehouse also performs well with its efficient waste management. Within the warehouse, the team sorts waste into seven different categories (paper, card, plastic, scrap metal, electric cables, metal wire and general waste). The team has a dedicated digital platform to monitor closely their recycling rates, with a minimum target of 80 percent. Cardboard can also be recycled in-house as product packaging.
Using water efficiently is another successful sustainability measure for the warehouse team. At this warehouse, the team collects rainwater, which is used to water outdoor green spaces. In addition, a closed water circuit recycles water for weekly sprinkler tests, which reduces consumption.
“The warehouse provides a great example of our sustainable working practices,” said Benoit Tinetti. “And the good news is, this site is not alone. At CEVA, we are committed to reducing carbon emissions in all our warehouses. We have already upgraded to LED lighting in 85% of our warehouses worldwide, with the rest due to switch within the next 12 months. And we’ll be adding more solar panels and moving to low carbon electricity across the majority of our sites within the next year too, as part of our decarbonization journey, as we continue to act for people and for the planet.”
