Climate education is imperative as the planet is experiencing the effects of climate change at an alarming rate – from intense heat waves to excessive rainfall to unprecedented sea-level rise. And the Garden State, particularly, has been dealing with more frequent precipitation and damaging flooding only predicted to grow more challenging.
The young people sitting in classrooms today will be the leaders in the continuing battle against the climate crisis. We must prepare them to be climate literate, with comprehensive and accurate knowledge of the environment around them.
It is important that our educators have access to the tools they need to incorporate climate science into their lesson plans. The Summary of Climate Change in New Jersey for Teachers draws from the state’s Scientific Report on Climate Change and is an important new resource to help teachers throughout the state understand and incorporate climate science into their lessons.
