Four Seasons Serengeti unveils a major solar farm, setting new eco-luxury standards while preserving the Serengeti’s natural beauty.
The Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti has unveiled its impressive new solar farm, a landmark achievement in eco-friendly innovation within the Serengeti National Park. As the most expansive solar installation in the area, this development marks a full shift to off-grid power, underscoring the Lodge’s dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainable travel practices.
Located amidst the pristine wilderness of Africa, the Lodge remains a premier destination for those seeking a genuine and deep connection with nature. With the addition of 2,256 solar panels that produce 990kWp of clean energy, powered by a robust 1MW inverter and supported by a 3 MWH battery storage system, the Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti redefines sustainable luxury in the region.

This sustainable project reaches well beyond the boundaries of the Lodge. It’s estimated that the solar farm will cut greenhouse gas emissions by 14,197 tonnes over the next quarter-century. Such a significant figure equates to an annual saving of over 640,000 liters of diesel fuel, showcasing the environmental efficacy of this initiative.

Beyond harnessing solar energy, the Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti promotes environmental stewardship through various initiatives. Its Discovery Centre, alongside the Discovery Centre Fund, channels proceeds from safaris, walking tours, boutique sales, and guest contributions into several vital community and wildlife projects. These include the Rhino Conservation Project and the Frankfurt Zoological Society’s Serengeti De-Snaring Project. Additionally, the Lodge supports a Mugumu safe house for vulnerable women and girls and contributes to the education and welfare of the nearby Robunda School.
