A teacher in Gulf Shores has received a national award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for her immersive environmental science curriculum—and particularly her focus on oyster restoration.
Krista Fleming, an environmental science teacher at Gulf Shores High School, received the Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators (PIAEE), the EPA announced last week. Fleming is one of nine winners throughout the country, and the only winner from Region 4, which covers much of the southeast.
