HOUSTON – Houston Scrap Metal Recycle Center, a sprawling complex on West Montgomery Road, was recently the target of a search warrant.
A Harris County Precinct One Deputy Constable noted on a map that a water retention pond near the rear of the property was “extremely polluted with chemical waste”.
The entire property is surrounded by a tall corrugated metal fence, common to scrap yards operating in and around the City of Houston.
Water and soil samples were taken from the property and are now being lab-tested to determine what if any chemicals are present.
The investigator noted the substance appears to be oil.
The COO of Houston Scrap Metal Recycle Center told KPRC 2′s Joel Eisenbaum that his company has a clean track record.
“We do quarterly discharge monitoring reports via a 3rd party environmental testing company and our results have been clean per EPA testing standards,” COO, Sean Adams, said.
No arrests or criminal charges have been made.
The business typically handles scrapped cars and other recyclable metal products.
