Hilton, a prominent player in the hospitality industry, along with its philanthropic arm, the Hilton Global Foundation, unveiled today the latest advancements toward their joint mission of fostering a more sustainable world for travelers. This unveiling comes in the form of the 2023 Hilton Global Foundation Impact Report and the 2023 Hilton Travel with Purpose Report
The Travel with Purpose Report by Hilton delineates the strides made by the hospitality giant in its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) endeavors, aimed at promoting responsible travel worldwide. This initiative outlines Hilton’s targets for 2030 in reducing energy, water, and waste, alongside commitments to community engagement and governance. With validated carbon reduction targets and social impact initiatives in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development goals, Hilton strives to diminish its carbon footprint while fostering opportunities and upholding principles of accountability, integrity, and transparency.
At the forefront of Hilton’s Travel with Purpose strategy are its 469,000 team members worldwide, dedicated to advancing responsible travel across the company’s operations, supply chain, and the communities it serves. In the past year, Hilton has achieved remarkable progress, including significant reductions in carbon emissions intensity and water usage, surpassing waste reduction targets, and creating numerous learning and career advancement opportunities. Moreover, the company has actively contributed through volunteer work and financial aid to support its team members in times of crisis and hardship.
In tandem with its progress toward the 2030 Travel with Purpose Goals, Hilton has demonstrated industry leadership and advocacy in various global forums, including the COP28 UN Climate Change Conference and engagements with legislative bodies and industry associations to promote climate action and social responsibility.
The Hilton Global Foundation, in collaboration with Hilton, has played a pivotal role in advancing these goals by channeling resources toward projects that enhance environmental sustainability, promote economic empowerment, and bolster community resilience. In 2022, the foundation’s grants, exceeding $4.4 million, supported initiatives worldwide aimed at improving local environments, fostering economic development for marginalized groups, and fortifying community resilience.

Thanks to the support from the Hilton Global Foundation, organizations worldwide are spearheading efforts in destination stewardship, creating learning and career pathways for all, and extending vital assistance to communities rebuilding after natural disasters. Furthermore, the Hilton Global Foundation actively supports communities affected by disasters and conflicts, extending the hospitality’s warmth and light to those in dire need. In response to earthquakes in Türkiye and wildfires in Maui, Hawaii, the Foundation collaborated with Hilton properties and local partners to offer immediate relief through food aid, emergency shelter, and essential supplies.
The Foundation also empowers Hilton team members globally to engage with their local communities beyond hotel confines, promoting hospitality’s ethos. Through Action Grants, nominated by Hilton staff, the Foundation supports philanthropic initiatives such as beach clean-ups, college readiness programs, and food waste reduction projects. In 2023 alone, 75 Action Grants were awarded to local organizations, fostering community engagement and positive impact.
Since 2019, the Hilton Global Foundation has made a substantial impact, with over $12 million in grants awarded, more than 18 million pounds of food donated, over 10 million meals served, 28 million pounds of material recycled, and 247,000 acres of land restored, exemplifying their commitment to social and environmental stewardship.
