Interim director of new SC Department of Environmental Services introduces agency after DHEC shuts down – WIS News 10

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – The interim director of the new South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (DES), Myra Reece, spoke Monday to officially launch the agency and explain its roles and responsibilities to the public.
The press conference took place at 10 a.m. outside the new DES headquarters at 2600 Bull Street in Columbia.
DES is one of the two new agencies formed after legislators voted in May to shut down the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). The agency will be responsible for protecting and preserving the environment and ensure South Carolina residents have clean air, land, water and coastal resources.
The other new agency formed after DHEC closed down is the Department of Public Health (DPH), which held a similar press conference on June 24.
