DELMARVA. – Earth day is right around the corner and local youth are giving their all to environmental stewardship.
High school students from across Wicomico County are taking part in the youth environment action summit, using their voices to bring public awareness to climate change, endangered species and other environment related topics.
Director of the organization, Elise Trelegan, said the youth are the leaders of the future, which makes it that much more important to get involved at a young age.
“Youth are not only our future leaders, but they’re our leaders now,” Trelegan said. “They’re really passionate about environmental issues, especially those related to climate change and environmental justice. When we as adults can hand over some of the tools and resources for them to take the lead, I think we have a huge opportunity.”
Make sure to tune in on Saturday May 4th to catch 47abc’s Leila Weah’s coverage on the youth summit’s tree planting event.
