KAHULUI–The County of Maui Mayor’s Office of Innovation & Sustainability (OIS) is thrilled to announce its fourth consecutive monthly Mayor’s Sustainability Speaker Series, featuring Jeff Mikulina, an esteemed community organizer and advocate for sustainability and public policy in Hawai’i. The event will take place on Thursday, May 30, with two addresses scheduled at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the Governor’s Conference Room, located at 2264 Aupuni Street #1 in Wailuku.
Mikulina, renowned for his multi-decade commitment to sustainability and public policy advocacy, will bring his expertise to the forefront in two engaging sessions. The first address at noon, titled “Hawaii’s Sustainability Future: Choice or Chance?”, will delve into the potential of public-private partnerships and the regenerative role of local and state governments in safeguarding our planet.
In the evening forum at 5 p.m., Mikulina will present “Hell, Hope, and How: Postcards from the Future”, offering insights into the current trajectory towards environmental peril, avenues of hope for mitigation, and strategies for achieving climate justice.
Reflecting on Mikulina’s contributions, Joshua Cooper, Chief Sustainability Officer for the OIS, stated, “Jeff Mikulina has been instrumental in guiding Hawai’i towards a sustainable future. His dedication to climate solutions has not only inspired action locally but has also set an example globally. We are honored to host him as part of our Mayor’s Sustainability Speaker Series.”
Mikulina, currently serving as the Climate Coalition Director for the Hawai’i Executive Collaborative, has a distinguished track record. As the former Executive Director of the Blue Planet Foundation, he played a pivotal role in Hawaii’s historic commitment to transition to 100% renewable energy by 2045, a landmark legislation that has since influenced other states.
The Maui Mayor’s Office of Innovation & Sustainability’s Speaker Series aims to foster crucial dialogues on climate change and sustainability, uniting community members, policymakers, and global leaders in pursuit of a more sustainable future. Through dynamic discussions and innovative ideas, the series seeks to mobilize collective action to address the pressing challenges of our time.
As we navigate the complexities of sustainability and climate resilience, the Speaker Series serves as a platform to educate, engage, and empower individuals and communities to enact meaningful change. Together, we can chart a course towards a more resilient and sustainable Maui Nui, and a brighter future for generations to come.
The event is open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to register in advance via Eventbrite at sustainmauispeakerseries.eventbrite.com. There is no cost to attend.
