The Organisation of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Environmental Sustainability Exhibition scheduled from July 2 to 4 is proceeding as planned.
The exhibition is part of the Eleventh OECS Council of Ministers: Environmental Sustainability (COM:ES 11), which was postponed due to Hurricane Beryl’s impact on some of the participating OECS member states.
This exhibition, which opened today, features displays from the OECS Commission, the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change and other partner agencies, including Beyond the Reef and Green VI. The displays include Virtual Reality educational videos, informational spread and educational posters and banners on climate resilience, environmental management, biodiversity and ecosystems management.
Chair of the 11th COM:ES, Dr. the Hon. Natalio D. Wheatley, Premier of the Virgin Islands said “The OECS advised of the postponement of the COM:ES due to the passage of Hurricane Beryl and are considering a date and modality for rescheduling. The meeting, however, we are happy that the exhibition on environmental sustainability is still taking place, and encourage everyone to visit over the course of the next three days”.
This decision to postpone COM:ES was made after careful consideration of the impact of major Category 4 Hurricane Beryl’s impact on some OECS member states, including Grenada and St Vincent and the Grenadines on Sunday evening and Monday.
Meanwhile, the OECS takes this opportunity to extend deep solidarity to Member States impacted by the systems, and stands ready to provide appropriate support.
The OECS currently has eleven members, spread across the Eastern Caribbean comprising of Antigua and Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Martinique and Guadeloupe.
