ST Telemedia Global Data Centres exceeds interim environmental goals early – Channel Asia Singapore

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) has published its 2023 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report, notably citing that two environmental targets of carbon intensity and renewable energy factor have been achieved three years ahead of schedule.
The ESG report outlines STT GDC’s three main goals: achieving carbon-neutral data centre operations by 2030, creating a safe, secure, diverse and inclusive workplace and running an ethical and responsible business.
“We are thrilled to share our remarkable progress in 2023, with two key interim environmental targets achieved ahead of schedule, alongside a record-low incident rate in our safety performance,” said Bruno Lopez, STT GDC’s president and group CEO.
With these early wins, STT GDC reported that it has achieved 62.5 per cent renewable energy usage across the group in 2023 and 45.6 per cent reduction in carbon intensity from the 2021 baseline.
Other recorded environmental impacts include attaining 9.5 per cent reduction in average power usage effectiveness (PUE) as compared to 2020 and 18.2 per cent year-on-year (YoY) improvement in water usage effectiveness (WUE) in 2023.
On the social aspects, STT GDC shared it was able to maintain zero work-related serious injuries or fatalities since 2020 with a 0.06 total recordable incident rate. Additonally, its offices in India, Singapore and the Philippines were awarded the “Great Place to Work” certification.
Regarding the goal of responsible business practices, STT GDC has almost 50 per cent of its data centres certified as Green Buildings under national or international programs such as Singapore’s Building Construction Authority (BCA) Greenmark or LEED.
They have also ensured that all employees have completed anti-corruption training with zero incidents of corruption and launched a Supplier Code of Conduct to ensure suppliers are committed to ESG principles.
“We are proud of the progress achieved to date, but there is still more to be done to further embed sustainability into every aspect of our business,” added Lopez.
“We look forward to continuing to set a leading example by doing what is right.”
