Virginia Beach wind turbine catches fire due to lightning strike – 13newsnow.com WVEC

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A wind turbine caught fire at the Brock Environment Center in Virginia Beach Monday afternoon after being struck by lightning, a spokesperson for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) said.
Officials said the fire was extinguished by the rain from the storm. The CBF’s Brock Environmental Center building was not damaged.
CBF Brock Center General Manager Chris Gorri shared his gratitude that everyone remained safe thanks to the Virginia Beach Fire Department’s response.
“At CBF’s Brock Environmental Center, we interact with nature every day,” said Gorri. “Unfortunately, today lightning struck the west turbine at CBF’s Brock Environmental Center. We are grateful to the Virginia Beach Fire Department for responding so quickly to this incident.”
The Brock Environmental Center is home to CBF’s Virginia Beach programs and the mobile oyster restoration center.
