There have been countless campaigns that speak on all different aspects of environmental protection like animal agriculture, saving endangered species, and waste management. This list explores ten of the most influential campaigns throughout history and delves into their impact.
Rachel Carson’s book exposed the dangers of pesticides, leading to the banning of DDT in the United States and the birth of the modern environmental movement. Silent Spring sparked a widespread government investigation into the use of pesticides. Rachel Carson made many brave statements in her book including, “If the Bill of Rights contains no guarantee that a citizen shall be secure against lethal poisons distributed either by private individuals or by public officials, it is surely only because our forefathers, despite their considerable wisdom and foresight, could conceive of no such problem.”
This campaign brought attention to the threatened extinction of whales, leading to a global ban on commercial whaling and increased marine Conservation efforts. Despite these efforts, a few countries continue to ignore the plight of whales.
