JACKSON, Wyo. — Marshmallow Peeps, baby chicks and egg hunts can conjure up childhood memories of Easter, but what about creating a new memory with the eco-bunny?
In the spirit of conservation this spring, Buckrail is sharing some eco-friendly options to lower the Easter bunny’s CO2 paw print. Here are some ways to save money, and to create an Easter basket with less plastic, disposable products and chemicals.
Get creative and ditch the plastic eggs that are not recyclable. Kids can have just as much fun searching for egg-shaped bath bombs, and treats inside DIY eggs made out of fabric or cardboard egg cartons. Another idea is to purchase compostable paper eggs, or hide the old-fashioned decorated hard-boiled egg.
Natural egg dyes make a great alternative to chemically synthesized dyes. Natural egg dye can be made at home using vegetable juices, including carrot and beet.
Another way to please the eco-bunny is to skip the plastic grass this year. Make grass out of fabric and/or paper, or skip it altogether.
Some additional ideas are to recycle the easter basket each year or find a used one. Purchase organic, local eggs to help out the chickens, and compost the egg shells.
Easter is just not Easter without candy, but the bunny can always bring organic jelly beans and fair trade chocolate, along with other holiday favorites.
Lastly, consider celebrating by finding ways to give back to the community. Local shelters, churches and food banks offer ways to for community members to give or donate time.
Buckrail wishes everyone a happy Easter!
