SHEPLER’S MACKINAC ISLAND FERRY
************************
After joining the Green Marine environmental certification program last year, Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry achieved its first certification today.
The family-owned Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry provides service every spring through autumn to and from Mackinac Island, a seasonal Michigan destination known for its pristine waters and abundant wildlife.
“It is our duty and responsibility to advocate for environmental preservation and consistently meet and surpass expectations in all areas,” says Chris Shepler, President. "Being part of Green Marine's comprehensive program resonates with our fundamental principles because its detailed framework steers our initiatives to consistently improve our environmental performance."
David Bolduc, Green Marine’s President, applauds the company’s initiative. "We commend Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry for its forward-thinking approach to environmental care," he says. "Since joining Green Marine in 2023, Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry has focused on meeting the program’s criteria for certification and continues to expand on that effort."
To obtain Green Marine certification, Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry assessed the environmental performance of its fleet of seven ferries using key performance indicators targeting greenhouse gas emissions, air pollutants, oily water treatment, waste management, and ship recycling. The certification process is rigorous and transparent, with results independently verified every two years and each participant’s performance published annually.
